On Thanksgiving Day in 1970, Native Americans and supporters gathered at the top of Cole’s Hill in Plymouth to commemorate a “National Day of Mourning.” The meetings have continued annually since, serving as a counterpoint to the Pilgrims’ Thanksgiving that most Americans celebrate with their families.
