Nestled in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen, Morocco, is known for its winding streets and varying shades of blue.

Legend has it that the traditional whitewashed buildings were stained blue in order to repel mosquitoes, although the unique color is also attributed to the religious practices of the Jewish refugees who settled in the town in the 1930s.
