Roger Staubach
Roger Staubach is an American former professional football player. Staubach was a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL). He played with the club for 11 seasons of his career. In 2008, he announced his retirement. As you probably already know, Staubach is one of the best quarterbacks of all time.
However, what many people don’t know about him is that he started a commercial real estate business in 1977 called The Staubach Company, in partnership with Robert Holloway Jr.
He said publicly that he decided to start working with real estate because he couldn’t retire at his age, so he needed money to support his family. “They didn’t pay quarterbacks what they do today. And I was 37 with three kids. I kept thinking about [what would happen] if some linebacker takes off my head and I can’t play anymore. Henry Miller Jr. was a lot like [legendary Cowboys coach Tom] Landry. They both had similar haircuts… they both had phenomenal integrity, great work ethic, and they could transfer their strengths to other people.”
His company has helped tenants find office, retail and industrial space for more than 30 years, growing to 50 offices in North America and 1,100 employees, but in 2008, when he retired, Staubach sold it to Jones Lang LaSalle for $640 million.
