That’s How You Could Bring More Light in Your House

Rearrange Your Furniture

How long has it been since you did some rearranging in your home? Before you start moving things, first, create a new floor plan that’s focused around the windows—you know: the part of your house that’s going to give you the best natural brightness.

If you keep those spaces open and airy and avoid blocking them with bulky furniture, your home will instantly look more cheery.

Choose a Basic Wall Color

With literal millions of paint colors available, painting your walls white might seem a little boring. But here’s the thing: When it comes down to it, there’s no better color to lighten and brighten a room.

While other colors can make your home feel more closed off, swapping in some white paint—or even freshening up existing white walls with new coats—instantly make your home feel fresh, airy, and inviting.

Put Plants Everywhere

It’s amazing how far a little greenery goes in adding brightness to your space. Head to the greenhouse and bring home big, bold plants you can place all throughout your home, whether that’s monsteras, birds of paradise, dracaena, or fiddle leaf figs.

Get Light-Colored Furniture

A dark brown couch is definitely pretty, but it really puts a damper on any space. The next time you go furniture shopping, choose items that are lightly-colored. You don’t have go risk it with whites which can get dirty quickly, but creams, beiges, and light grays will do the trick, too.

And if you’re not in the market for new items at the moment, you can always revamp the old with some quality couch covers.

Go Wild with Mirrors

It might feel a little egotistical to hang mirrors all over your home, but they’re not for looking in (ostensibly). Their primary purpose? Bouncing light around the space.

Even rooms that don’t have a lot of natural sunlight will feel brighter overall due to how much it reflects, adding a can’t-beat touch of brightness to even the darkest corners.

Get Lighter Curtains

Instead of opting for thick curtains that hardly let any natural light through into your home, swap them for something more lightly-colored—and also something that’s nice and sheer.

That way, even when you want some privacy and close your shades, you’ll be able to let through some happiness-inducing sunlight.

Get a Statement Rug

When choosing a rug, the safe route is bringing home something that’s a light neutral color that will go with everything.

One way to really brighten up a room, though, is to go bold. By picking a cheery pop of color—like in-your-face yellows, teals, oranges or even some softer pastels—you’ll instantly add some energy to the space.

One rule, though: Just make sure it doesn’t clash with your other décor or brightness will be the least of your problems.
