Personal Collections
A few months ago, a real estate listing made the rounds on Facebook because of the way the house was decorated. Every single room was filled with Disney paraphernalia — from statues, snow globes, and plates, to artwork, curtains, and linens.
While it was fun to look through the very personalized way this family had decorated their house, having these kinds of personal collections in your home can devalue it. That’s because a homebuyer wants to envision him or herself in your house, which is much more difficult if every surface is covered with Dale Earnhardt memorabilia or your clown collection.
If you’re a collector who is hoping to sell your home, make sure you clear out your collection before putting your house for sale, or you may find that your favorite things lower the home value.
