Take an Inventory
If you’re trying to limit your spending, one of the worst things you can do is buy something you already own.
You don’t want to spring for the fancy holiday centerpiece at the store, only to come home later, pull your decorations out of storage and realize you have something similar. This is why it’s important to take stock of what you own. Make a list if it helps.
By combing through your personal inventory, you’ll not only avoid doubling up on decorations, but identify the areas you might need more. It’s better to go into the store knowing that you need, say, one string of lights, instead of winging it and coming home with the whole holiday aisle.
