Helps you stay fit or lose a few extra pounds
There are many people who try to lose a few extra pounds to be healthier or fitter, but due to these pandemic times, we can’t spend as much time in the park or in society as we used to, so getting some fresh air in the garden or doing some activities there is a good idea. There are two main things that can help you control your weight, whether you want to lose extra pounds or maintain your actual weight, namely getting involved in gardening tasks, as well as eating more veggies and fruits sown by you.
As I said at the beginning of this article when you get involved in gardening activities, you will kill two birds with one stone, therefore, your garden will look more beautiful and will be well organized and you will avoid having a sedentary lifestyle.
If you have a garden and usually don’t like going to the gym, you can still do a good workout by getting involved in some gardening tasks instead.
According to a 2013 study done by Cathleen D. Zick PhD, Ken R. Smith PhD, Lori Kowaleski-Jones PhD, and colleagues, on the potential weight control benefits of community gardening, published in the American Journal of Public Health, both women and men gardeners had a significantly lower body mass index than non gardeners. They also found that gardeners were less likely to develop obesity than non gardeners.
In conclusion, you can take care of your physical health and control your weight even though you can’t (or don’t like) going to the gym. Doing something pleasant and useful at the same time can bring you a lot of benefits.
