Loofahs
Exfoliate with a loofah and you could be adding more bacteria to your skin’s surface than you’re sloughing off.
An oft-referenced 1994 study published in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology revealed that loofahs carry—deep breath—pseudomonas, xanthomonas, klebsiella, enterococcus, and group B streptococcus bacteria.
And since loofahs are made of natural material, rendering them difficult to disinfect, you’re better off with a regularly-laundered washcloth or exfoliating silicone mitt (which can be sterilized with boiling water).
