Vinyl flooring
Contains: PVC and dioxins
Replace with: bamboo, laminate, cork or porcelain flooring
Imitation is not good, except when it is meant to save the environment and animals, such as faux fur. Other than that, expect some nasty consequences. Like the ones caused by vinyl flooring. According to scientists, vinyl flooring includes PVC which, as mentioned before, is a confirmed carcinogen. The process of making the vinyl flooring is also dangerous for workers, as carcinogenic toxins called dioxins can be formed and released during one of the stages of the manufacturing process.
Having vinyl flooring in your home would expose your family to its harmful effects. You don’t want that, do you?
Fluorescent lighting
Contains: mercury
Replace with: LED or halogen bulbs
What are you, a fish living in a tank? Not only is fluorescent lighting cheesy and unflattering but it can also cause serious health problems, with cancer being one of them.
According to a study funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, the CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs contain mercury, whose adverse effects have been linked to cancer in humans. In addition, the CFL bulbs emit UVA and UVB radiation, especially if they have cracks. Exposure to such radiation can lead to skin cancer.
